There's a war going on, now, between industries which depend on intellectual property and the hacker community. 'Intellectual property' is a mechanism for the creation of artificial scarcity in goods which, because they can be reproduced at marginal cost, are in principal infinitely abundant; the effect of intellectual property where it is used to create scarcity is greatly increase disparities of wealth and power.
