HomeSouth West Community Woodlands Trust is a registered charity established in 1997 with the aim to conserve and regenerate woodlands, and to reconnect people to the countryside and it's biodiversity by directly involving them in woodland crafts and woodland management. The Trust has permanent use of land OS NX793 556 known locally as Taliesin an ancient woodland site nestling at the foot of Screel Hill with a burn, meadow, pond, and 2000 trees planted and tended by Trust members. The Trust runs craft workshops through the year and has regular festivals, work days and barbeques. All through the year Taliesin is a haven for walkers, cyclists, campers, groups of partying youngsters, young children, cadets and scouts who enjoy walking in the woodland or sitting in the sun soaking in a myriad of sensations that mother nature provides. As the trees grow the biodiversity of the site continues to increase. Violets, bluebells, bog asphodel, damsel and dragonflies, great crested newts, lizards, toads, frogs, adders and red squirrels proliferate. Raspberries, blackberries, fungi, elderflowers, pig nuts and sheep sorrel satisfy the urges of the hunter gatherer and Taliesin continues to be a place of wonderment, education and discovery. The intention is to buy Taliesin in the near future and fund raising continues. Purchasing Taliesin will secure the site's future as a hand's on woodland centre allowing children and adults to learn traditional woodland skills and crafts. Sustainable use of native timber and low impact technologies will be developed to provide training and employment opportunities.
